Where the events come from

How gathering works

Twice a day, at 00:00 and 12:00 UTC, the calendar reads each source below — a venue's own events page, a library system's calendar, a museum's listings, the City of Buffalo's calendar, a tourism bureau's feed, or a ticket seller's listings for the Buffalo area — and merges what it finds into one list. The same event reported by two sources is matched on its title, date and venue and kept once, with the fuller record.

A source is counted only while it is carrying at least one upcoming event. 5 more feeds are connected but currently carry nothing upcoming — seasonal venues between seasons, for example — so they are not counted here. That is why the number moves.

Every listing on the calendar links back to the source it came from. Local organizers can also submit an event free; those appear with the calendar's own submissions as the source.

Run a venue, library or organization?

If your events are published somewhere machine-readable — an iCal or RSS feed, a WordPress events calendar, a Google Calendar — we can usually add it. Email [email protected] with the address of your events page. If a listing that came from your calendar is wrong, the same address fixes it.
