Grand Island & the 716

Running something?
Tell us about it.

Church suppers, fundraisers, live music, cleanups, craft shows, a sale in your driveway — if it's happening around here, it belongs on the calendar. Always free, any size of event, and nobody pays to appear here: anyone can send one in.

A person reads every submission. Nothing posts automatically, so there's no rush and no harm in sending something half-finished — we'll follow up if anything's unclear.

By sending this in you are giving us permission to publish the event on 716spotlight.com, including the description you wrote.

How submitting works

Is it free?

Yes, free, and there is no catch. You do not need an account and we do not ask for a card. Advertising on our printed postcard is a separate paid product; it has no bearing on whether your event is listed or where it appears.

Does my event appear straight away?

No. Every submission is read by a person first. It goes into a review queue, and it is not on the public calendar until it is approved. In practice most are dealt with the same day; the longest one so far took about two and a half days. If something is time sensitive, call 716-771-2273 and say so.

What do I have to fill in?

Required: event name, date, venue or place, a short description of what is happening, and your name and email. That is all.

Optional: start and end time (leave the time blank for an all-day event), street address, town, cost, a link, a flyer or photo, and your phone number.

Do I need a photo, a ticket link, or an organizer contact?

None of the three is required. A photo is optional but listings with one get looked at more. A ticket or information link is optional. Your name and email are required, but they are how we reach you about the listing, not published on the site.

Can I submit a recurring event?

There is no repeat setting on the form. Submit the next date, and say in the description that it repeats and how often. We will add the rest of the dates by hand. For a long running series it is usually quicker to email [email protected] with the schedule.

What kind of events do you take?

Anything open to the public in the Buffalo and Western New York area: concerts, festivals, markets, fundraisers, library and school events, church suppers, meetings, classes, theatre, comedy, sports, story times. Free and paid are both fine.

What we turn down: private events not open to the public, anything already past, ordinary business hours or ongoing promotions rather than a dated event, and anything outside the region. Of the submissions received so far, most have been published and the rest were declined for one of those reasons.

How do I fix or remove a listing?

Email [email protected] or call 716-771-2273 with the event name and date and say what is wrong. Corrections and removals are done by hand, usually the same day. You do not need to have been the person who submitted it.

More about the calendar — how many events it holds, which towns it covers, where the listings come from.
